Peter & Katy – Westerly Yacht Club Wedding

As I closed my car door and started to walk down the driveway I began to hear the laughter. By the time the wedding day rolled around I’d met Katy, the bride, on a couple of occasions. Expecting nothing else, I entered her parents’ home and found her already enjoying the start of their wedding day with a huge smile surrounded by her closest family and friends (minus Peter, the groom, of course). The day continued to be nothing short of complete magic. Peter & Katy decided to do a First Look and as I waited with Peter he couldn’t wipe the grin off his face – he was beyond excited to see his bride.

It was just the two of them, Katy sneaking up behind Peter as she walked across the lawn….and in the background, her dad watched as his daughter approached the one she loves, the one she chose, and the man that chose her. Having chatted over coffee during their consultation I was aware of the precious relationship Katy has with her dad. With this in mind, I captured a few moments of their First Look with her dad visible in the background. The light was perfect, a soft breeze enveloped the couple, and the faint smell of saltwater drifted up from the waterfront. As a photographer I will never take this privilege for granted. There is no cliche about it, I was able to witness the sweet moments of the couple’s embrace with a front row seat. To be trusted with the responsibility of capturing their most raw and intimate moments – it’s beyond beautiful.

They exchanged tearful vows, lit a beautiful candle in memory of Peter’s father, shared a magical kiss (or two) and danced the night away. From cherished words shared during the toast by Katy’s sister and Peter’s brother, to Peter’s jacket which had photos of Katy from our engagement session sewn inside – Peter & Katy, you are surrounded by friends and family who are so very clearly cheering you on. They’ve witnessed the way you love and care for one another and as much as you said “I do” to each other on that day, the community that you’ve surrounded yourself with also proclaimed “Yes – we support you!” Your love is tangible, real, and vibrant. Blessings on your marriage and thank you for allowing me to be a part of your story!

Mikaela & Russ – Engagement

I hope you’ll be able to tell from these photos – but this session was a DREAM. Mikaela and Russ made my job a piece of cake. They’re one of those couples that are just so incredibly comfortable to be around.

They’re in love and it shows. And it’s so beautiful.

Enjoy this little glimpse into some sweet moments these two shared during our time together!

Watch Hill – Agins Family Sunset Session

A couple of days before this family sunset session, as we were finalizing the schedule and location, Kim mentioned that she and Dan had been married at the Watch Hill Chapel and were interested in getting a few family photos there if possible. My response of course was “YES!” Well, it turned out to be a wonderful, picture-perfect evening with a quick detour for the girls to the carousel. Doesn’t get much more fun than this kind of summer beach night!

Take a look at this totally cute family!

wedding

Genviéve & Chris

A gathering including family, food from one of their favorite restaurants, an arbor they built themselves, and a whole lot of love – this one is going down in the records as the SWEETEST elopement ever.

There’s not a whole lot else to say except this: I had a hard time holding back tears throughout the entire ceremony.

As I walked to the yard I started to see in greater detail the place settings that had been crafted with care along with many other thoughtful touches put together for a night to remember. To top it all off I learned throughout the evening that Genviéve had done much of the planning and creating herself (did I mention they have an adorable little one with another one on the way?), talk about a serious super mom! As soon as I saw the way Chris looks at Genviéve I knew that this was one of those relationships that’s grown and become more cherished and treasured as life’s experiences have become more raw and real. Even though it felt like it was straight out of a fairytale it was very clear they’re real life is so much better. It’s a life full of family cheering them on, real life toddler laughs and inevitable break downs, dogs that hold a respected place in the family, and even more room in their hearts to continue down life’s road ready for everyone and everything that enters their story.

It was my pleasure to capture this moment in their lives.

Best wishes to the beautiful newlyweds!

cross-country interior design: photography project

Several weeks ago I had the amazing opportunity to spend some time taking photos of Zigmund the adorable short haired Chihuahua – nicknamed ‘Ziggy’. He is an absolute LOVE, to say the least. He’s also one of the most photogenic dogs I’ve ever met. Ziggy’s owner Annette enlisted me to help her with an amazing design project for her home in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the process of designing and updating she had a vision for one of her dining room walls and shortly after that we were introduced. The coolest part of this project, aside from hanging out with Ziggy and Annette climbing over rocks, up and down staircases, and running around on the docks in Noank, Connecticut, was seeing the project come to life. On her most recent trip to Las Vegas Annette sent me a few photos of the finished wall. I must admit, it’s surreal seeing one of my images literally larger than life and I am so overjoyed to know that she is pleased with the outcome. Pets are such precious companions and this photo certainly adds a modern and personal flare to the space.

It was a wonderful experience helping to bring life to a project across the country and a huge shoutout goes to Crystal at Freddie Ramon Interior Design for the incredible work done – I’m so excited to be able to see it in person one day! Take a look at how COOL this is, and let me know if anyone else is interested in a similar project because I’m totally up for it!DeBois-005DeBois-037DeBois-061DeBois-018DeBois-013unnamed (1)unnamed (2)unnamed

Family

Tomorrow will never be the same as today

A couple of weekends ago I had the privilege of watching my sister walk across the stage at SUNY Oneonta as she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Adolescent Education and Mathematics. To say we are all proud of her would be a complete understatement. When I first started dating my husband the first time I met Bridgette was during her freshman year of college and we’ve shared many incredible adventures since. We’ve watched her grow during her college years and transform into the amazing young woman she is today. When she asked me to capture these moments of her with friends and family over her graduation weekend I was touched (and a bit emotional).

Bridgette, you are and will continue to be an amazing teacher. Watching the way you care for others makes me jealous of all of the students that will walk through your classroom door and experience what it’s like to learn from Miss Proper. I have a feeling your students will learn as much about mathematical equations as they will learn about how to show respect and tackle some of life’s biggest challenges.

But for now, I wish you peace in this time of transition. In this season in life where you no longer have access to a dining hall. Where friends aren’t always as close in physical proximity as they once were. And I hope that these photos help to make the hard days a little sweeter.

And finally, CONGRATULATIONS! You did it. The Proper clan loves you and we are all standing by eagerly watching the amazing steps you will be taking in the next few years.Graduation Blog-001Graduation Blog-002Graduation Blog-003Graduation Blog-004Graduation Blog-005Graduation Blog-006Graduation Blog-007Graduation Blog-008Graduation Blog-009Graduation Blog-010Graduation Blog-011Graduation Blog-012Graduation Blog-013Graduation Blog-014Graduation Blog-015Graduation Blog-016Graduation Blog-017Graduation Blog-018Graduation Blog-019Graduation Blog-020Graduation Blog-021Graduation Blog-022Graduation Blog-023Graduation Blog-024Graduation Blog-025Graduation Blog-026Graduation Blog-027Graduation Blog-028Graduation Blog-029Graduation Blog-030Graduation Blog-031Graduation Blog-032Graduation Blog-033Graduation Blog-034Graduation Blog-035Graduation Blog-036Graduation Blog-037Graduation Blog-038

engagement

katy & peter – engagement

When I first met Katy & Peter for coffee they requested an engagement session at the location where he proposed – which of course I was absolutely thrilled about! I spent about 45 minutes scouting out spots at Napatree Point for photos before they arrived, including the very rock where Peter got down on one knee. As I was walking to meet them, when I first saw them walking towards me I had to do a double take in order to really absorb their level of preciousness as well as STYLE. I don’t have to talk much about their class or the love they share because these photos say it all. These two are such a joy to be around and it is so very clear they are completely in LOVE. Gah, I love love.

They expressed that neither of them had been on the other side of a lens very often, and made it clear they would need a little guidance. This is always my favorite because they can focus on creating memories together and everything is fresh. My goal is always to encourage laughter and make them feel comfortable being vulnerable in front of the camera. After all, I want to capture them. That means raw emotions, running in the sand, crazy beach hair, tickle fights, hand holding, and tender kisses. I am so grateful Katy & Peter trusted me to be on the other side of the lens capturing these vulnerable moments. This is an exciting season in life and I love watching their story unfold.

And lastly, the moment I will forever remember from this session is when I started to pose Katy and take a few portrait photos. I turned to Peter, who was standing next to me at the time, and asked if he would step into the frame and join her. Katy was standing far enough away that I don’t think she even knew this interaction was occurring, but I looked over at Peter and noticed him slightly shaking his head almost in disbelief whispering “She’s just so beautiful, I can’t believe you want me in the photo.” *insert heart melting and attempting to hold back the tears*

These are the moments that I hope to bring to life and help them remember.

And with that, here they are! Stay tuned for their wedding photos in September 2017!
